Hi, I'm Denis.
I help expats, newcomers and other Dutch learners become more confident in using Dutch.
Whether you're living in the Netherlands, preparing for the NT2 exam or simply learning Dutch because you enjoy it, I'll help you reach your goals with personal one-to-one lessons.
I believe learning a language should be practical, enjoyable and focused on real conversations. My goal is simple: to help you use Dutch with more confidence.
More than just a Dutch teacher
Teaching is one of the most rewarding things I've ever done.
Over the years, I've learned that confidence doesn't come from knowing every grammar rule. It comes from using the language.
That's why conversation is at the heart of my lessons.
Of course, grammar matters. But instead of memorising endless rules, I prefer to explain grammar when it naturally comes up in conversation. That way, it becomes practical, easier to remember and immediately useful.
My goal isn't to help you speak perfect Dutch.
My goal is to help you actually speak Dutch.
Experiences that shaped me
Teaching, travelling and volunteering have all influenced how I work with my students today.
Teaching in Thailand
One of my most memorable teaching experiences was in Thailand, where I taught English to local students.
It reminded me that learning isn't about getting everything right. People make the biggest progress when they feel comfortable enough to try, make mistakes and keep speaking.
That experience still influences the way I teach today.
Teaching groups and companies
Over the years I've taught individuals, companies and larger groups.
Different settings and different goals taught me that no two learners are the same. Some like structure, others learn by doing, and everyone progresses at their own pace.
That's one of the reasons my one-to-one lessons today are so personal.
Volunteering abroad
Travelling and volunteering have always been important to me.
Wherever I spend time, I try to learn some of the local language. Over the years, I've picked up a little Thai, Burmese, Khmer, Vietnamese, Arab and Swahili.
I'm definitely not fluent — but that's exactly the point. I know what it's like to search for words, make mistakes and still try to connect with people.
It helps me understand what my students experience when they're learning Dutch.
Outside the classroom
Teaching is only one part of who I am.
Social work
Besides teaching Dutch, I work as a social worker supporting refugees as they build a new life in the Netherlands.
Working with people from different backgrounds has always been an important part of my work.
Being a dad
I'm also the proud father of a daughter. Being a dad has taught me plenty about patience, listening, humour — and not taking everything too seriously.
Maybe we'll meet soon.
Learning a language is personal, and choosing the right teacher is too.
